Please my fellow yogis, creatives and health and wellness peeps, it’s time to Flip the script on the idea that your teaching is all about information delivery.

It’s not.

So very few of us are suffering from a LACK of information these days. And most of us are suffering from an overwhelming deluge of unending information.

The constant stream of articles on our newsfeeds, the googled responses to any question or topic we may dream up, or the barrage of incoming media whether in the form of paper, digital, or social is with us almost all of the time.

So why, dear brilliant healers and teachers when you begin to create your curriculum for your class or program, do you think of your work as delivering all the information from your head to your students?

It is time to stop treating your work as information delivery and realize it is so much more.

Because it is, a brilliant teacher, I see you create EXPERIENCES for students in your classes; I hear you describe the pathway to EXPERIENCE the changes we seek in your classes;

I feel your transformative adjustments in a yoga class; I smell the delightfulness of fresh ground coriander that has forever reshaped my EXPERIENCE and sensibility of that herb; I taste the synergistic blend of goodness in your Ayurvedic lunches that delight.

And you know what differentiates all of that information delivery from what you do?

EXPERIENCE.

So, as you begin to create (or revise) your curriculum for a course, program or training- instead of seeking to deliver information to your students, think instead about creating powerful experiences for them. And from that starting point ask yourself:

  • What information (and how much information)  will help students deepen and extend their experience and understanding?
  • What sort of activities will give students the opportunity to experience what they seek?
  • What level of support do they need on the journey?

And from this place of rich curated experience, your students will have the insight and tools to meet their goals.

It is experience, not information, that changes us. Flip your script.
